Waikato

The Bay of Plenty and Waikato wine regions are relatively small in terms of New Zealand wine production.

Vineyards are located on the plains south of Thames River and around the Tauranga Harbour. Despite the low production there is a wide diversity of styles and each winery has its own distinctive characteristic.

In terms of production, the Waikato and Bay of Plenty produces about 3 percent of New Zealand's wine and more than half of the agricultural land is devoted to kiwifruit production.
